why is there a rug on the knob?

After my friend Abby and I had a horrible experience visiting a new church today, we were both CRAVING to be outdoors in nature and to try to forget what we had just heard.  Sometimes the best spiritual connector to God is just to be outdoors! (Wait for my blog, by the way, on "things heard in churches in the south"). 

I call Pilot Mountain "the knob" because it is soooo randomly shaped! (one old pic from 2009)

It has the most amazing 360 views of the Yadkin valley between Winston-Salem and Mount Airy/Virginia border.  And is sooo much fun to hike on such a gorgeous day. 
Abby and I literally cannot go anywhere or do anything without something random happening (I can't wait until she starts her own blog....get ON it, Ab!).  Well, today, we about fell off the mountain laughing when I looked down and there was a RUG on the trail on the  knob.  WHAT??? What purpose does this serve. Who knows, except to make us laugh.  If you know of the reason for a rug to be purposefully placed along a hiking trail, please let me know.

Ahh, spring 2017, you were MONUMENTAL. Absolutely monumental. You will forever be remembered as one of my favorite seasons of life. an epic week

What an epic week! I'll start with tonight. So my friend Abby moved to Winston. Totally exciting, long awaited, great-opportunity-for-her, overall momentous occasion. I told her we'd celebrate. Picked my favorite restaurant downtown. Her sister drove in from Raleigh. I invited my best work friend to come. We enjoyed a great dinner downtown tonight. Felt all "small city metropolitan." (or at least I did). We walked as a group of four out to the parking lot, myself in front. I heard a scream. I turned around, expecting to see her talking to someone she knew. Instead I saw a man running away from us, and Abby saying that he tried to take her purse. I screamed at him. He just ran away. I saw a cop down the street who pulled someone over. I ran to him to ask for help. He helped us. "Robber" proceeds to come OUT of the parking deck near us AGAIN! pre-wedding festivities continue!

Blair's wedding is getting ever closer....about 10 days to be exact. We are all definitely feeling the craziness, that is for sure. Are weddings ever really "simple" affairs?? Despite the hectic schedule of wedding planning, we are all so excited for next week and have high hopes for a wonderful wedding weekend. Blair is the first of us four kids to get married, the first cousin on one side & only the second on the other to get married - so we are all new at this wedding thing! =) We celebrated with my dad's family this weekend to give them a chance to meet Matthew and his family. My dad's family is huge and most of them were able to come with us to Falls Lake park for two big meals, football, and "hanging out." The rain held off (as the rainbow in the morning promised us!) and Blair and I sobbed leaving because it was such a special day. We didn't want it to end.
