the city that never sleeps

Since Pennsylvania is only two hours away from NYC, we drove in last night for a visit! Talk about polar opposites from amish country.  We drove from horse and buggies to subways and trains.  From no fast food to thousands of restaurants.  And past amish families not using electricity to times square. Whoah!  This was my 5th trip to Manhattan and it was great!! I had not ever been up to the top of the empire state building, or to the statue of liberty, or to ellis island.  I loved it! My first two trips to New York were prior to 9.11, and I am always especially eager to see the updates to Ground Zero and the WTC.  It is really coming along nicely!

Ahh, spring 2017, you were MONUMENTAL. Absolutely monumental. You will forever be remembered as one of my favorite seasons of life. pre-wedding festivities continue!

Blair's wedding is getting ever closer....about 10 days to be exact. We are all definitely feeling the craziness, that is for sure. Are weddings ever really "simple" affairs?? Despite the hectic schedule of wedding planning, we are all so excited for next week and have high hopes for a wonderful wedding weekend. Blair is the first of us four kids to get married, the first cousin on one side & only the second on the other to get married - so we are all new at this wedding thing! =) We celebrated with my dad's family this weekend to give them a chance to meet Matthew and his family. My dad's family is huge and most of them were able to come with us to Falls Lake park for two big meals, football, and "hanging out." The rain held off (as the rainbow in the morning promised us!) and Blair and I sobbed leaving because it was such a special day. We didn't want it to end. Capri and Getting Home (final italy blog)

After Cinque Terre, we took the night train to Naples, then the ferry to Capri. Friends, if you take the night train in Italy, it is worth it to pay the price to have your own cabin. Trust me. We didn't sleep much at all because we were with 5 other people in this cabin. The island of Capri was amazing! We stayed in an amazing seaside resort, which was perfect for the end of the trip. We didn't walk around, didn't shop, didn't even really try to have an agenda. FANTASTIC.    Then it was back on the ferry to Naples. Of course, this water picture reminded me of LOST (sigh).  Heather left that night for her flight to Switzerland, then New York.  So I stayed near the airport and completely rested. I'll admit, I also cried like a baby.  I seriously get these huge mood swings when I travel - one minute I'm over the top with excitement, the next I'm alone sobbing that its all over.  I also spent a lot of time with God that night, just thanking Him for suc...
