Trekking to North Carolina

Trek (Webster definition):
to go on a long, arduous journey 

 Trek (Barber alternative definition): 
  • living three hours from a national airport 
  • utilizing shuttle bus to avoid driving through mountains to aforementioned airport 
  • often sleeping in airport terminals because of not being able to coordinate flight arrivals with shuttle schedules
Living in southeast Idaho and trying to get home to good ol' North Carolina is a TREK. A serious trek. I thought living in Winston-Salem and having to fly out of Greensboro (a mere 30 minutes away) was an adventure. Ha! Try living three hours away.  (I shouldn't write this, because I don't want my family and friends who have mentioned visiting to cancel their plans. =) )


Then again, there is a plus side. Taking a shuttle means that I am not the one driving late at night through the mountains, and I can zone out to Netflix. If I don't want to tune out the world or take a nap, I can window gaze at the amazing Idaho and Utah scenery as we drive down I-15.  Crying babies and kicking kids on every single flight is training me for having my own kids one day.  Speaking of kids, as I make this trek four or five times a year, I don't have kids to entertain, yet - whew! And, best bonus - every airport has wine. Every one.

All in all, sarcasm aside, trekking home is the best feeling in the world. Nothing beats that moment of flying into Charlotte-Douglas International and seeing my family waiting for me. For that, and for being able to purchase airline tickets as needed, I am so very grateful.

Ahh, spring 2017, you were MONUMENTAL. Absolutely monumental. You will forever be remembered as one of my favorite seasons of life. an epic week

What an epic week! I'll start with tonight. So my friend Abby moved to Winston. Totally exciting, long awaited, great-opportunity-for-her, overall momentous occasion. I told her we'd celebrate. Picked my favorite restaurant downtown. Her sister drove in from Raleigh. I invited my best work friend to come. We enjoyed a great dinner downtown tonight. Felt all "small city metropolitan." (or at least I did). We walked as a group of four out to the parking lot, myself in front. I heard a scream. I turned around, expecting to see her talking to someone she knew. Instead I saw a man running away from us, and Abby saying that he tried to take her purse. I screamed at him. He just ran away. I saw a cop down the street who pulled someone over. I ran to him to ask for help. He helped us. "Robber" proceeds to come OUT of the parking deck near us AGAIN! pre-wedding festivities continue!

Blair's wedding is getting ever closer....about 10 days to be exact. We are all definitely feeling the craziness, that is for sure. Are weddings ever really "simple" affairs?? Despite the hectic schedule of wedding planning, we are all so excited for next week and have high hopes for a wonderful wedding weekend. Blair is the first of us four kids to get married, the first cousin on one side & only the second on the other to get married - so we are all new at this wedding thing! =) We celebrated with my dad's family this weekend to give them a chance to meet Matthew and his family. My dad's family is huge and most of them were able to come with us to Falls Lake park for two big meals, football, and "hanging out." The rain held off (as the rainbow in the morning promised us!) and Blair and I sobbed leaving because it was such a special day. We didn't want it to end.
